Family Self Sufficiency Program - DHS Lee County, FL

Emergency Services

Emergency Services administers a variety of programs, some of which may be able to provide financial relief due to an unexpected emergency expense or unforeseen temporary loss of income.

Assistance is not in the form of cash but rather payments to vendors such as utility companies or landlords.  Due to funding cycles, all programs are not necessarily in effect at any given time.  Eligibility requirements may vary depending on the program.  Please call (239) 533-7900 in advance to make sure funding is available and that you meet the basic eligibility criteria.
  • UTILITIES - Assistance with electric bills is available through LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), Emergency Services Utilities and CTS (Care To Share - for Florida Power & Light customers only).  Under certain circumstances water bills are eligible for payment through Emergency Services Utilities.
  • RENT/MORTGAGE - Clients receive face-to-face screening and assessment of needs and eligibility with regard to various programs that may provide assistance with first month's rent, eviction rent or past-due mortgage to low-to-moderate-income individuals or families that have experienced an unforeseen financial crisis.
  • INFORMATION AND REFERRAL - Applicants are routinely referred to other service providers if the screening counselor identifies a need or service not available through our office.  Click here to go to the Human Services Directory online and search area agencies.
