Emergency Services

Emergency Services offers a variety of programs that may provide temporary financial relief due to an unexpected emergency expense or unforeseen temporary loss of income.

Assistance is in the form of payments to vendors such as utility companies or landlords.  Due to funding cycles, all programs may not be available at any given time.  Eligibility requirements vary depending on the program.  Please call (239) 533-7996 for a telephone screening to make sure funding is available and that you meet the basic eligibility criteria.

  • UTILITIES - Assistance with electric bills is available through LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program), Emergency Services Utilities and CTS (Care To Share - for Florida Power & Light customers only).  Under certain circumstances water bills are eligible for payment.
  • RENT/MORTGAGE - Clients receive face-to-face screening and assessment of needs and eligibility with regard to various programs that may provide assistance with first month's rent, eviction rent or past-due mortgage to individuals or families.
  • INFORMATION AND REFERRAL - Applicants are routinely referred to other service providers if the Eligibility Specialist identifies a need or service not available through our office.  Another important resource for services available in the community is the United Way 211 Information & Referral database.  You may search their database or dial "211" from your telephone (or 433-3900 if "211" does not go through).
