Family Self-Sufficiency The Family Self-Sufficiency Program of the Department of Human Services coordinates and facilitates financial assistance available through various county, state, and federal grants. Primarily serving low-to-moderate income households, the goal of the program is to assist households to become, or remain, self-sufficient through four main program areas. Assistance is subject to available funds and various program guidelines. You may call (239) 533-7900, or toll-free at (866) 408-9769 to make sure funding is available and that you meet the basic eligibility criteria. All programs are not necessarily in effect at any given time. The program does not provide cash assistance. All payments are made to vendors only. Emergency Services may be able to provide one-time assistance with rent, mortgage, or utilities. HOPWA may be able to assist with transitional housing, rent, mortgage, and utilities provided the household's financial difficulty is due to the HIV+ status of a household member. Homeless Services administers two programs that may assist the homeless to secure permanent housing. Job Training administers the Lee Education & Employment (LEE) Program that currently coordinates two evening classes per year in medical office skills. Adoption Assistance For Pregnant Women - material assistance for pregnant women who are willing to make an adoption plan for their unborn child. This program is administered by Catholic Charities, Diocese of Venice.
